This letter repeats the concerns and ideas already expressed and is our submission to the public comment process ending November 20. This letter is also a letter of proposal for an Ecological Farm Management Plan, first proposed at a meeting with Scott Benton and Brian Bawtinheimer over a year ago.

We’re excited to announce our next dinner will be Saturday, August 18th at Salt Spring Seeds. This vegetarian meal will be a fundraiser for the Agricultural Alliance. Come early and enjoy a farm tour given by local legend Dan Jason!
Our farm to table series focuses on showcasing local produce prepared by gourmet chefs. This meal will be a collaboration between local chefs Danya Smith (Lulu’s Apron; https://www.facebook.com/lulusapron) and Kari Mathieson (http://www.karimathieson.com). Both women are passionate about food and preparing nourishing and beautiful meals. There will be a lot of love put into this meal!
Dan Jason has been a passionate gardener since he planted his backyard in Montreal at age 13, and is committed to empowering people to grow their own food and save their own seed. Since 1976 he has lived on Salt Spring Island, BC, where he created the mail order seed company Salt Spring Seeds, which specializes in heritage and heirloom open-pollinated and non-GMO seed varieties of vegetables and plants. Dan was strongly involved in Seeds of Diversity Canada in the early years, and founded the Seed and Plant Sanctuary for Canada in 2003, which he now heads. Dan has written many books, including his most recent Awesome Ancient Grains and Seeds. Saving Seeds as if Our Lives Depended on it is now in its 7th printing. As an active critic of genetically modified seeds, patents on living organisms and industrial agriculture in general, he is a dedicated educator on sustainable organic gardening and farming, food politics, seed saving, and a farmer of beautiful gardens full of vegetables, grains, medicinal and culinary herbs and flowers.
The meal will be eaten in the beautiful garden, where guests can enjoy the view and the sounds of birds and local musicians. We will have local beverages available for purchase. Join the Salt Spring Agricultural Alliance for a fundraising dinner for the Salt Spring Abattoir. Enjoy a five course meal and live music in a beautiful farm setting. We’re pleased to welcome back renowned Auntie Pesto’s chef Shawn Walton as he prepares Bright Farm’s organic duck (vegetarian options available), farm fresh salad and roasted veggies, lamb meatballs, and Sue’s famous apple pie for dessert!
